Thank you for visiting LOCO Motorcars, Loudoun County Exotic Motorcars destination. Offered for sale is this exceptional Contemporary Classic 427 S/C Cobra Roadster, production number CCX34005, titled and registered as a 1967 Shelby Cobra and showing just 13,271 miles. Finished in stunning Bright Racing Green Mecca Pearl with silver "rookie" racing stripes, this meticulously crafted roadster is a thunderous salute to the Golden Age of FIA racing and one of the finest examples of a Contemporary Cobra available today.
Built by Peter Bayer and his team at Contemporary Classic Motor Car Company in Mamaroneck, New York, CCX34005 represents one of the most authentic and highly regarded interpretations of Carroll Shelby's legendary 427 Street/Competition Cobra. Utilizing body tooling derived from an original Shelby American 427 S/C Cobra and built with an unwavering commitment to authenticity, Contemporary Cobras have long been celebrated by Shelby enthusiasts and marque experts for their exceptional craftsmanship, engineering, and driving dynamics. This example captures the unmistakable appearance, sound, and performance of the original Cobra—famously described as "a jet engine on a roller skate."
Power comes from a professionally rebuilt Ford 428 FE big-block V8 outfitted with premium performance components throughout, including a Crower camshaft, Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, 750 CFM Holley carburetor, MSD billet distributor, MSD 6AL ignition box, dual remote oil filters, remote oil cooler, heavy-duty aluminum radiator, CeramiCoated headers and side pipes, and legend-correct triple-chromed Ford pentroof valve covers. AeroQuip stainless-steel hoses and AN fittings are utilized throughout the engine compartment, while handcrafted aluminum inner fenders and firewall panels showcase the extraordinary attention to detail invested in this build.
The drivetrain is equally impressive, featuring a Lakewood steel safety bellhousing, the desirable Ford Toploader close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission with big input shaft, and a professionally rebuilt Jaguar XJ6 independent rear suspension equipped with Posi-Traction and a 3.31:1 gear ratio. The IRS assembly was expertly narrowed by CWI and fitted with bulletproof half shafts, providing outstanding strength, reliability, and road manners.
Beneath the bodywork is Contemporary Classic's renowned chassis, constructed using jig-assembled 4-inch round-tube mild steel frame rails with 1/8-inch wall thickness, closely modeled after the original AC and Shelby American Cobra chassis while offering enhanced rigidity and strength. Chassis and suspension components are powder-coated or polished throughout and feature Delrin suspension bushings, a stainless-steel jack plate, four polished Aldan adjustable shock absorbers, and numerous detail enhancements that separate Contemporary Cobras from lesser replicas.
The car's aggressive big-block stance is complemented by expertly handcrafted aluminum engine bay panels, correct hood rivets, a riveted hood scoop, polished aluminum luggage compartment panels, and numerous period-correct details throughout. Every angle of CCX34005 reflects the dedication to authenticity that made Contemporary one of the most respected names in Cobra reproduction.
Inside, the legend-faithful cockpit has been exquisitely handcrafted and trimmed in premium Connolly leather upholstery. The driver is greeted by an original-style instrument panel featuring Smiths gauges, including the desirable reverse-reading 180 MPH speedometer and correct period layout. Additional authentic details include original-style Lucas switches, an original-style shifter and shift knob, AC brake and clutch pedals, Simpson 5-point racing harnesses, and a beautiful hardwood-rim Moto-Lita steering wheel featuring the original AC center crest. The result is an interior that perfectly captures the spirit of the original 427 S/C Cobra while providing an engaging and purposeful driving environment.
More than just a replica, the Contemporary Classic 427 S/C has earned recognition as a collectible in its own right among Cobra enthusiasts. With body tooling derived from an original Shelby Cobra, exceptional engineering, and an unmatched commitment to authenticity, Contemporary Cobras are widely considered among the most desirable Cobra recreations ever produced. Finished in iconic British Racing Green-inspired Bright Racing Green Mecca Pearl and powered by a formidable 428 FE big-block V8, CCX34005 offers a rare opportunity to own and enjoy a remarkably faithful interpretation of Carroll Shelby's legendary sports car without compromise.
